Overview
The Tanzania Mental Health Summit is a flagship initiative of WAYDS, convening
stakeholders from across the country and beyond to advance dialogue, action,
and collaboration on mental health. Held annually, the summit brings together
government representatives, civil society organizations, mental health
professionals, youth, women leaders, and development partners.
Focus
The summit emphasizes the role of mental health in achieving the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) in Tanzania. Through keynote addresses, panel
discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and networking sessions, participants
explore mental health within the context of education, economic empowerment,
food security and nutrition, climate change, human rights, HIV/AIDS, infectious
diseases, and maternal and child health outcomes.
Impact
The summit is more than a one-time gathering — it is a movement. It provides a
platform for policy influence, advocacy, and practical strategies, while also
amplifying the voices of women and youth. Each year, the event engages over
2,000 participants, shaping shared commitments and generating action plans that
extend far beyond the summit.
